Beijer Ref & SCM Ref Africa introduces its CO2 refrigeration technology to the South Africa market

Beijer Ref subsidiary SCM Ref Africa unveiled a CO2 transcritical rack at the Frigair tradeshow in Johannesburg, earlier this month, targeting another refrigeration market that has shown a huge interest in the latest CO2 technology.

“This is SCM Ref Africa’s first transcritical unit,” said Greyling Wentzel, design and production manager at SCM Ref Africa.

Following the acquisition of Phoenix Rack by the Beijer Ref Group in 2011, the company’s name was changed to SCM Ref Africa at the end of last year. Seeing a huge opportunity for CO2 transcritical in South Africa, Wentzel said: “At the moment, there’s a bit of a skills shortage, but as soon as we can up the skills and get more people interested, then hopefully as more people use CO2 transcritical, the costs will come down.”
