USA:  Parker Hannifin has launched the Sporlan SMART Service Tool Kit, developed to make HVACR diagnostic readings faster, easier, and more accurate. The kit comes with lightweight wireless sensors that conveniently sync with an iPhone or iPad app, enabling you to read a system’s real-time refrigerant pressures and temperatures without using cumbersome hoses or manifold gauges.

The app automatically calculates and displays superheat and subcooling eliminating manual calculations. All of this data can be easily recorded, saved and emailed from the app allowing technicians to diagnose issues faster, look at trends over time, and provide proof of work.

USA:  Ritchie Engineering Co., Inc. are about to launch the new Yellow Jacket ManTooth wireless digital pressure/temperature gauge, eliminating the need for conventional gauge manifold sets and hoses.

The ManTooth is available as a single pressure wireless digital P/T gauge with clamp or as a dual pressure unit with a P/T module, tether unit and two temperature probe clamps.

The free downloadable ManTooth RSA app receives live refrigerant pressure and temperature readings from one or more ManTooth PT Modules through a wireless Bluetooth connection, and displays the system’s actual pressures, temperatures, superheat and subcooling in an easy-to-read color format on your iPhone, iPad or Android device.

The App converts pressure and temperature readings to your favorite units of measure, corrects for your elevation using GPS, and can be used with any one of 98 refrigerant profiles.

The user can use the App to maintain Service History information about each job location and each piece of equipment and also has a sharing feature which enables Screenshots to be stored by location and equipment, date and time stamped.

It has a range of up to 400ft and includes built-in Schrader ports to easily adjust refrigerant charge. Its rechargeable lithium polymer battery gives up to 10 hours use.

UK:  Flir Systems has announced the release of its latest TG165 Imaging IR Thermometer that allows you to see invisible heat patterns, measure temperatures, and store images and data.

Built around FLIR's Lepton micro thermal imaging camera core, the TG165's thermal imaging technology provides users the ability to diagnose problems with its built-in spot temperature capability.

Fast and easy to use, the TG165 lets users get right to work with an intuitive point and shoot capability. Its dual rotating lasers visually mark the size and location of what is being measured, while the on-screen crosshair pinpoints the region on the thermal image.

The TG165 is said to bridge the gap between current generation IR thermometers that offer no imaging capability, and FLIR's market-leading thermal cameras.

Here are just some of things the TG165 can do.

  • See and measure overloaded or loose electrical connections
  • Check HVAC vents and temperature operation
  • Check the efficiency of refrigerated display cases
  • Check for drive motor or compressor overheating
  • Check for sources of heat gain or cold air leaks

The TG165 is set to transform one of the most commonly used measurement tools into a discovery device that gives refrigeration and HVAC technicians the capability to solve problems quickly and easily.

The TG165 is priced at an affordable £399 plus VAT and will be available at stockists this month.

USA:  Transducers Direct have launched a new Bluetooth-enabled, wireless sensor to enable refrigeration and air conditioning engineers to read refrigerant pressures without gauges. The battery powered TDWLB pressure sensing transducer attaches to Schrader valves of refrigeration or air conditioning systems, allowing engineers to monitor refrigerant pressures from a tablet or smart phone.

The sensor has been developed for home automation, industrial, marine and commercial applications. It uses a patent-pending design and proprietary digital circuitry for high-energy efficiency to provide an 18 to 24 month battery life and redundant sensing.

Its smart phone app (T-Direct TDWLB on iTunes and soon Android) lets the engineer name each sensor one time securely, then program setpoints/alarms for multiple sensors, monitor readings, and graph activity over time – all from a phone, tablet or computer.

The TDWLB is available in two different compensated accuracies of one per cent and 0.25 per cent, with temperature sensing as an option. It is designed for intermittent, rather than dynamic, machine-control applications.

Rob Matthes, Transducers Direct President, said the pressure of any fluid can be monitored from vacuum to 10,000 psi. “It ends the refrigerant leaks that occur when attaching gauges,” The US-made sensor is all digital, eliminating mechanical components, wear parts, analog circuitry and setpoint drift for ultimate reliability and accuracy. It uses a one-piece, precision-machined stainless steel diaphragm and header. This provides 10 times the life of a conventional diaphragm and eliminates all springs, pushrods, micro switches and O-rings. All wetted parts are stainless steel.”

UK:  The revolutionary RCS-Bacharach PGM-IR Portable Refrigerant Leak Detector has been shortlisted by judges at the RAC Cooling Industry Awards 2014.

The PGM-IR, a joint entry in the awards by RCS Energy Management and partners Murco, has been shortlisted in the Refrigeration Innovation category.

The PGM-IR represents a breakthrough in portable monitor technology for analysing and checking halogen-based refrigerant levels.

In addition to its portability, its advances include the detection and display of actual concentrations in real time.

This means it doesn’t zero out background concentrations, that it’s not looking for changes in concentration and, crucially for many refrigeration applications, that it isn’t disrupted by changes in temperature.

This, combined with highly sensitive 1ppm detection and fast response and clearing times, makes it possible to detect for the first time low level leaks in areas which render traditional leak detection technology ineffective – places such as already contaminated areas, the inside of chiller cabinets, and even outside the store.

RCS Commercial Manager Simon Grater said: “We are delighted that the RAC Cooling Awards judges have recognised the breakthrough nature of the PGM-IR in this way. “Everyone who has used the unit has quickly identified its power and potential – that it can locate for the first time the smallest leaks in the hardest to reach areas, and them prioritise where their leak prevention resources need to be deployed.

“We looking forward to the Awards night in September and fingers crossed that the PGM-IR is as successful in the awards as it is already proving to be in the market!”

For further product information visit: http://www.rcsenergymanagement.co.uk/RCS-Bacharach-PGM-IR-portable.php or contact Simon Grater directly on 01635 231600.

The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony on 24th September at the London Hilton.
