UK:  Green Point, the specialist compressor remanufacturing operation launched by Bitzer, is expanding its service to include other makes of compressor.

When launched last year, the company handled only Bitzer units. From September, however, it is extending its premium quality total remanufacturing operation to include compressors made by Bock, Carrier, Copeland, and Trane.

Will Pribyl, General Manager of Green Point in the UK, said: “The aim always was to begin by remanufacturing Bitzer compressors. Having successfully established the business, and with a growing customer base, we are now widening the offer to include machines from other manufacturers.”

He added: “Customers tell us they appreciate the outstanding quality of our Bitzer units, and are keen to have access to similar high quality remanufactured compressors from other manufacturers. It goes without saying that we will be adopting the same uncompromising approach to standards as with our own equipment.”

To support the growth, Green Point is expanding the UK engineering team with the appointment of France Bootun as Remanufacture Technician.

Bitzer UK launched Green Point in Spring 2014, becoming the only compressor manufacturer with a remanufacturing operation in the UK. Its objective was to bring a new dimension of engineering quality and attention to detail to every stage of the remanufacturing process.

Backed by Bitzer’s unrivalled technical know-how, it is able to upgrade compressors to as-new standard from any state or condition. The company always fits new motors and replaces all key wear components, while offering machines at a price point around 30 per cent below new.

“A key issue in the market is availability, as most orders arise from breakdown situations, “ says Will Pribyl. “Green Point has a huge advantage here, as we are part of the wider European and indeed global Green Point network. If we don’t have a particular model in stock, we have access to stock held across the network. This has proved invaluable already, enabling us to supply exactly the unit required at very short notice.”

The quality of remanufactured units is reflected not only in excellent reliability and extended working life. Green Point-remanufactured compressors are up to 10 per cent more efficient than some competing units, due to the thoroughness of the refurbishment process and use of state-of-the-art motor technology

GERMANY:  Leading compressor manufacturer Bitzer has updated it's compressor selection software with a new online user-friendly version, which now includes the latest generation of low-GWP refrigerants.

Bitzer is the first compressor manufacturer in the world to approve and authorize the use of R448A, R449A, R450A and R513A refrigerants, approved for use with their Ecoline compressor series. In addition to the Ecoline series, the HSK/HSN series of semi-hermetic screw compressors can also be designed to operate with R448A and R449A.

The main features of the new program include the rapid calculation of performance data and a virtually displayed refrigeration system where users can modify various components as they wish.

New online user-friendliy Bitzer compressor selection software with low-GWP refrigerants

Users can also set individual parameters by means of input fields and thus easily evaluate the desired operating conditions.

Individual Bitzer compressors can also be selected and displayed within the system with their respective performance data. This provides users with important technical information, calculation results and individually defined performance tables for  the compressors, which they can then print out or save in PDF format.

With global warming potential around 65 percent lower, R448A and R449A are a suitable alternative for R404A. ECOLINE compressors do not require cooling through liquid injection, even in the low temperature application. All the refrigerants are allocated to the safety group A1 and therefore declared as noncombustible.

The new BITZER selection software 6.4.3 is now available as an online version at

UK:  BITZER Advanced Header Technology (BAHT) for tandem and trio Orbit scroll compressors makes it easier to use these products in parallel circuits for air conditioning and heat pump systems. The newly developed suction gas header with integrated oil distribution plays a key role, specifically directing oil to one of the compressors in the tandem and trio units. The system even works when uneven compressors are combined and allows the frequency of a single compressor to be adjusted.

The benefit of BAHT is that only one suction line is required for many compressor combinations. The system functions with consistent reliability at high and low suction gas volume flows and promotes uneven capacity adjustment through different displacements and compressor housing sizes in one unit. Another benefit is that active oil management with an oil separator is no longer necessary for distributing the oil. Even when a compressor is shut off, oil distribution is maintained in the unit.

BITZER’s ORBIT 6 scroll compressor range comprises five models with cooling capacities between 27 and 51 kW. They are ideal for air conditioning systems and heat pumps, featuring low sound levels. The larger ORBIT 8 series has six displacement volumes between 29 and 77 m3/h with 15 to 40 hp outputs. The sound level is about three dB(A) lower than that of conventional compressors. The very low oil carry over rate of less than one per cent improves heat transfer properties and increases system efficiency and reliability.

UK: BITZER’s new CSVW2 compact screw compressor has been specially designed for use with water-cooled liquid chillers in installations with low condensing temperatures. Its mechanism is based on the tried-and-tested CSVH2 compact screw compressor, thus combining proven strengths with new capabilities at low load conditions.

In order to achieve a high COP for this application, and attain a good ESEER, BITZER has integrated some innovative drive technology. This is particularly important in chillers using water-cooled condensers. The CSVW2 includes a new permanent magnet motor which delivers better efficiency at low speeds and low loads than the CSVH series. As a consequence BITZER has also modified the frequency inverter.

The CSVW2 has been optimised for water-cooled rather than air-cooled chillers. BITZER has adapted features of the CSVH2 design for these new operating conditions, whilst maintaining its strengths such as durability and a wide application range. The CSVW2 also features automatic operating parameter control and a performance range which can be reduced by up to 16 per cent. It is the same size and weight as the compact CSVH2 and therefore for its class offers the lowest weight and most compact dimensions.

UK:  BITZER has optimised its proven CR capacity control system by adding blocked suction and with the new CRII system, BITZER offers a whole new level of flexibility with the option to adjust the operation of ECOLINE compressors in line with operating conditions.

Depending on these conditions and refrigerant, a special control algorithm allows compressors to be infinitely adjusted.  With the CRII, BITZER has achieved an exceptionally wide range of control between 10 and 100% for four and six-cylinder compressors.  The increased switching frequency ensures smaller fluctuations in controlled value, temperature and pressure. In combination with the expanded range of control, this optimises system efficiency.

Compressors are available with the CRII cylinder heads pre-installed.  The CRII system is also backwards compatible and available for retrofitting to the ECOLINE four to eight cylinders models including 4FES-3(Y) to 6FE-50(Y) as well as the two external cylinder banks in the 8GE-50(Y) to 8FE-70(Y) compressors.

BITZER’s New ECOLINE reciprocating compressors (4 to 221 m³/h) are now even more versatile.  They are available not just for refrigerant R134a, but also R404A, R407A, R407C, R407F, R507A, propane, hydrocarbons and the new HFO and HFO/HFKW mix.  Special ECOLINE compressors can also be specified for high-pressure R410A refrigerants,

BITZER’s New ECOLINE compressors are highly efficient and can be used as a replacement part within existing refrigeration systems.  The coefficient of performance (COP) has been improved throughout the series by 6% in terms of the usual nominal points and as much as 12% for the low condensing temperatures important for annual capacity (seasonal efficiency).  The compressors with motor version 2 are now universal refrigeration compressors for full low and medium temperature applications.

New ECOLINE’s are compatible with previous generation ECOLINES as they feature an unaltered mounting hole pattern and the same pipe connections.  A number of design changes within the compressor have optimized the efficiency (higher cooling capacity with minimal energy requirements). New ECOLINE also serves as a basis for all Varispeed compressors and the well-known air- and water-cooled condensing units.

As an optional accessory, BITZER offers tried-and-tested capacity control systems for the entire series.  All the compressors are also suitable for operation with external frequency inverters.

UK:  BITZER has been manufacturing COcompressors since the mid 1990s and has now expanded its series of semi-hermetic refrigeration compressors for transcritical COapplications, including smaller and larger models. With the introduction of the 4PTC-6K model for lower displacements and the 4DTC-25K and 4CTC-30K models for higher displacements, the series now ranges from 4.3 to 25.6 cubic metres of displacement per hour at 50 Hz.

With CO2, only very small amounts of direct greenhouse gas emissions are released, so with these applications a greater focus is placed on reducing indirect emissions through energy consumption.  Consequently, BITZER CO2 compressors offer high energy efficiency and exceptional versatility.

BITZER is the only compressor manufacturer to also have its performance data certified by ASERCOM (Association of European Refrigeration Component Manufacturers). All compressors for subcritical COapplications, and most of the compressors for transcritical applications, have been integrated into the certification programme.

ASIA:  Bitzer, the Global refrigeration compressor manufacturer is to target product piracy in a new campaign to stop counterfeit products entering the market, particularly in Asia where this is a major issue.

Selling counterfeit technical applications is not only extremely irresponsible it can also be extremely dangerous.

Bitzer said in a statement, “Aside from safety, the issue of performance clearly takes centre stage, as it plays a key role in the customer’s purchasing decision,”

“It is especially bad in Asia where unscrupulous product counterfeiters even copy the catalogue data of Bitzer compressors, which misleads buyers. Low quality components significantly reduce both the service life and reliability of equipment during operation.

“Poorly constructed components cannot withstand the high demands and will likely experience limited functioning after a short period of time or be completely defective and require repair.”

“Be wary of accepting unusually cheap offers for compressors, spare parts or refrigerants.”

In addition to complete compressors, Bitzer has warned about copied spare parts and the use of fake refrigerants.

If you are unsure about any of the products you wish to purchase you can contact Bitzer’s Green Point offices. Green Point are expert contact representatives when it comes to issues of compressor repair. They are able provide customers worldwide with support and can optimally monitor the entire life cycle of its compressors and pressure vessels all over the world.

UK:  Green Point UK was officially launched on April 24 2014 and established to remanufacture and repair compressors to the highest OEM standards.  This covers covering not only all BITZER products, but also all other major brands.

Based at BITZER UK's UK headquarters in Bletchley, near Milton Keynes.  Green Point UK is based in a purpose-built 2600 square metre facility and represents a highly significant investment by BITZER. This underlines the company's long term commitment to the buoyant and growing remanufacturing market.  Green Point UK is led by Managing Director Kevin Glass, General Manager Will Pribyl and a team with extensive experience and technical know-how. Green Point UK's website will provides customers with comprehensive real time information on remanufactured stock availability as well as comprehensive details of the services on offer.

Green Point UK and BITZER UK’s Managing Director Kevin Glass says:  “Remanufacturing services for compressors already exist in the UK and indeed there is an established market.  We, however, are offering something different in terms of the quality of product and the services that we can offer. Green Point UK’s operation follows the same pattern as other members of the Green Point global network and has been set up in response to our UK customer requests and feedback.  We pay particular attention to the types of compressors that are most in use and demand to ensure they are always readily available from Green Point UK.  We are also the only UK based operation that can completely remanufacture BITZER screw compressors.”

Green Point UK will enable customers to benefit from all the expertise and experience that the BITZER organisation offers - but in a remanufactured unit from small semi-hermetics to the largest screw compressors.  These products will sit comfortably alongside BITZER branded products in the new compressor market and together they will provide complete, competitively priced solutions.

The model for the whole Green Point network is based on close co-operation with the BITZER Group and it uses the processes that have made BITZER a world leader in new compressor technology.  This approach means the highest quality standards, consistent workmanship and close consideration of environmental issues.  By taking in scrap/used compressors from customers and remanufacturing them, Green Point is removing the problem of disposal from the end user.  Also central to the operation of Green Point UK is the commitment to recycle all scrap components as well as initiatives that include ensuring through vigorous testing procedures that all compressors have the highest operational efficiency.

Green Point UK provides customers with a like for like swap of an old compressor for a remanufactured unit with the quickest possible turnaround. The initial phase of the operation therefore has centred upon building up stock of popular compressors that are then completely remanufactured and put into stock ready to swap. Phase one is the popular BITZER second generation compressor range along with the predecessors of the Octagon range and the older BHS range along with the open drive versions. Screw compressors are also in this phase target.

The background experience of the Green Point team and knowledge of BITZER products ensures full awareness of the latest developments in BITZER technology. Therefore alternative remanufactured compressor solutions may be recommended to meet specific customer needs and based on factors such as environmental concerns and improved energy efficiency.

The remanufacture of compressors by Green Point UK is a thorough process.  It includes the replacement of an existing motor with a brand new one as well as completely new valve plates, bearings, piston rings, bearings and pressure relief valves.  The Green Point Quality kit contains all the critical safety, wear and tear parts.

The remanufacture of BITZER compressors uses only BITZER 100% original parts – from the smallest component to the most critical mechanical part.  This concept guarantees high performance, reliability and the achievement of product life expectancy. Green Point UK always holds a comprehensive stock of these genuine original parts to ensure fast customer service.  For other brands of compressor, wherever possible original manufacturer parts will also be used or alternatively quality approved pattern parts that meet OEM tolerances and specifications.

Quality control is built into the whole remanufacturing process, with batches tested for quality and detailed testing taking place at the end of the complete remanufacturing process.  Green Point UK is also looking to acquire ISO 9000 accreditation for its quality procedures.  New investments in tooling and facilities at the plant include cleaning/ washing equipment and comprehensive leak testing equipment. A specialist heated drying room is central to the whole process, ensuring that each compressor is delivered totally dehydrated.

The repair of BITZER compressors is also a major activity and the organisation's trained and skilled engineers will follow set procedures covering the testing and repair of BITZER compressors, including those within and outside their original warranty period.

Each compressor that arrives is documented and analysed to determine the possible root cause of failure.  It is then repaired and the replacement of parts is carried out only after careful evaluation and not randomly. Components still in good condition are checked, cleaned and repositioned whilst lubricant, washers and gaskets are always replaced to help ensure safe and reliable operation. They are fully tested before despatch and Green Point UK is equipped with a dedicated bench test facility to check the operational efficiency of the repaired compressor against those of an original new compressor.
